Dr Dipesalema Joel is the current Chairman of Diabetes Association of Botswana. He is a Senior Lecturer and a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist in the department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Health at the University of Botswana and Princess Marina Hospital. He did his undergraduate medical training at the National University of Ireland, Cork in 2002 and his speciality training in Paediatrics in the Republic of Ireland. He did sub-speciality training in Paediatric Endocrinology under the auspices of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) in Nairobi, Kenya in 2011. He is the Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
Dr Dipesalema Joel has special interest in diabetes in children, growth disorders in children and his research interest is in Diabetes, HIV and Growth. He has published extensively in the field of Paediatric Endocrinology and he has presented in a number of international conferences. Dr Dipesalema Joel is the recipient of the Paediatric Endocrinology Training Centre for Africa (PETCA) Distinction Award for his outstanding performance as a fellow in Paediatric Endocrinology. He is also the recipient of the University of Botswana and the National AIDS Council (NACA) Red Ribbon Award in the category of the International Research Champion for his outstanding contribution to the field of research.
Dr Seeletso Nchingane is the current Vice Chairman of Diabetes Association of Botswana. He is a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist in the department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Health at Princess Marina Hospital. He did his undergraduate medical training at the National University of Ireland, University College Dublin in 2003 and his speciality training in Paediatrics in the Republic of Ireland. He did sub-speciality training in Paediatric Endocrinology under the auspices of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) in Nairobi, Kenya in 2013. He is the Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.Dr Seeletso Nchingane has special interest in the provision of clinical care to the children with diabetes.
Dr Claire Brockbank is the current Secretary of Diabetes Association of Botswana. She is a private General Practitioner (GP) in the Independence Surgery, Gaborone, Botswana. She did her undergraduate medical training and her speciality training in General Practice in the United Kingdom. She is a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners.Dr Claire Brockbank has special interest in diabetes education, provision of clinical care to patients with diabetes. She has been involved with Diabetes Association of Botswana since 2013. She has keen interest in raising public awareness on diabetes and improving education on healthy lifestyle choices.
I’m a credit controller at Pinnacle Micro Trading at Boditse. I volunteered in the Diabetes Association of Botswana because I had been diagnosed with diabetes in 1994 and had been living with it since then. Some of my family members were also diagnosed with diabetes over the years. So I want to contribute to the nation by giving back through supporting people living with diabetes.
Motlalekgomo Matsheng-Samuel is a Diabetes Nurse Educator working as a Principal Registered Nurse in the Ministry of Health. She is currently based at Block 6 Diabetes Clinic and Princess Marina Hospital. She has been a member of the Diabetes Association Botswana since its formative years in 2001. She is involved in patients education through the use conversation map tools in the management of diabetes, foot care and teeth examination.
Dr Marea Gaenamong is an additional member of the Executive Committee of the Diabetes Association of Botswana. She is a young motivated Motswana with an interest in empowering the youth through education for all. She joined Diabetes Association of Botswana because she wants youth with diabetes not being stigmatized because of their condition. She strongly recommends that youth with diabetes use their condition to create a change in both the young and old. She got involved with the Diabetes Association of Botswana so as to strengthen their knowledge and confidence about non-communicable diseases. She believes empowerment and protecting the youth from discrimination can be done from a very young age. In the process of empowering them, she will also get empowered.
Charles Muyela is an additional member of the Executive Committee of the Diabetes Association of Botswana. He is a final year medical student at the University of Botswana. He has been involved with Diabetes Association of Botswana since 2012. He chose to volunteer for the Diabetes Association of Botswana because he wants to make a difference in Botswana by helping as many people as possible. He has successful lead the organization of the annual diabetes walk in collaboration with the partners in the food industry.
She is 23 years old, female, currently not working. She finds great joy in helping others. She knows how much of an emotional burden diabetes can be because she had for years and contemplated committing suicide at some stages in her life. Being a youth leader allows her to share her story-to inspire not only diabetic patients but everyone else to take better care of their bodies/health. Her Interests are aspiring writer and would love to specialize in diabetes in the very near future
